Ritual Dream of the Shaman (2019) visualises the re-enactment of a Celtic shamanic ritual, performed by experimental archaeologist, writer and musician Billy Mag Fhloinn. After reciting a Gaelic incantation, and performing historically researched actions using re-constructed totemic objects, the shaman begins a dream journey. The dreamscape unfolds onto a space where the presence and agency of environment becomes the protagonist. Watched over by Elen of the Thresholds, a figure and harbinger of change, the piece also visualises the ritual use of Bullaun stones as an oracular device. The piece is created as a five-channel video installation displayed using video projection mapping, with an original soundtrack, written and performed by Billy Mag Fhloinn. The piece also features contemporary dance artist Isabella Oberlander.
Installation at The Luan Gallery Athlone, June 15th - August 10th (2019). Five-channel video installation (18 min).
